At our most recent union meeting (on Wednesday), members of UNISON City Branch showed their support for the forthcoming Climate Strike. The Branch also agreed to send an open letter to Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby to ask him to encourage all Council workers to back the strike and the march through Leicester. However, on Thursday, prior to our Branch sending out the open letter, the Council sent their staff a message that noted:
“Council staff are welcome to join the march during their lunchtime, meeting at the Clock Tower from 12.00 and marching to Jubilee Square at 13.00 where a number of speakers will be present. You can join at any point along the way, or head straight to Jubilee Square. Read more about the Leicester Climate Strike.”
Later that night, the Leicester and District Trades Union Council also sent a message of solidarity to the Climate Strike, which the President of our Trades Council, Chris Willars, has been invited to address.
