Tens of thousands people descended upon Belgrave Road tonight to celebrate the annual Diwali lights switch-on. Members of the Save Glenfield Heart Unit Campaign likewise joined the jubilations using this festive opportunity to gather signatures for their petition that opposes the threatened closure.
Petitioning is never easy at the best of times, but hundreds of signatures were successfully gathered, and Shirley even managed to squeeze in a quick interview on BBC Radio Leicester live from the Golden Mile.
Many people expressed an interest in attending the forthcoming protest on Saturday 29th October and pledged to spread the word about the campaign. Similarly dozens of shops along the Golden Mile are helping to support the campaign by advertising the protest in their shop windows (see photos below).
If you want to get involved in the campaign then share the online petition here https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/160455, join the protest https://www.facebook.com/events/540685566131322/permalink/542672012599344/ , and get in contract with the campaign to see how you can help stop the closure of Glenfield’s much-love heart unit https://saveglenfieldheartcentre.wordpress.com/
